2 Corinthians 1:20 - For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
Yea – 1) yea, verily, truly, assuredly, even so
Amen – 1) firm, a) metaph. Faithful, 2) verily, amen, a) at the beginning of a discourse - surely, truly, of a truth, b) at the end - so it is, so be it, may it be fulfilled.
Have you ever had someone make a promise to you then broke it? It hurts doesn’t it? Promises are made by people all the time without really thinking, we just say “O.k. I promise I’ll…” and then sometimes, if anyone is like me, we forget to do what we promised. We as the human race may forget to do all we say, however, according to our verse today ALL the promises that God makes will be kept. We can read through God’s word and see many promises that He has made and we can rest assured that God will do what He says.
If you have ANY questions about God’s faithfulness to fulfill all His promises all you have to do is read the Bible and you see for yourself the promises God made and kept all through the Bible. The Bible reinforces itself by not only making an argument, but backing it up. Look at the words at the top and see their definitions. These words tell us that the promises made by God will assuredly happen and we can stand firm on what He says. Why would God make sure He keeps His promises? His “reputation” is on the line, “unto the glory of God”. Every time God keeps a promise He has made His glory is seen and He receives the glory as well. When God promises something He lays it all on the line. When God lays everything on the line you can be sure He will not let you down.
Simply put this verse promises that because of Who God is He will keep all the promises made by Him. He will NOT disappoint. HE will come through every time. Now that’s a Promise to Ponder.
