So many times we pay too much attention to those around us. We hear the world say "God is not good" We hear the Devil say "If God were good this world would not be in the shape it's in." We listen to our emotions when they say "Noone cares about what your doing." We fall in to depression, forgetting to hear the MOST important voice. God, says "Cast all your care on Me because I DO care.." JOHN 3:16 - GOD IS GOOD.

I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. ~Charles Dickens

How to celebrate - Be ever vigilant to the ding-a-lings that will come out of the woodwork. Ding-a-Lings will be everywhere: on the road, on the street, in stores, and even in your house! We suggest you get into the holiday spirit, and become a ding-a-ling yourself......But, please do so for just one day.
Christmas is Jesus. Immortal God wrapped in Mortal flesh. Immortal, Holy, Righteous, Sinless, Perfect God wrapped in flesh to battle sin, battle temptations, and emotions. Immortal God creator of the universe, wrapped HIMSELF in flesh for one purpose and one purpose only... to experience torture, beatings, pain beyond description; to die for our sins. Think about that this Christmas season it WILL change you.

As I was watching my kids It hit me that Christians (even adults) act just like them. My kids argue over insignificant, selfish things. None of them willing to give in to the other. They like to play together. Today Christian forgive. Stop fussing & fighting instead pray for the one who's hurt yout. Don't act like a spiritual child, but be a spiritual adult. Love your Spiritual sibling, even if they are wrong.

Mat. 4:19 - "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Have you ever been fishing? I have. I had to wake up early, make sure the fishing line was not tangled, bait the hook, cast the line & wait. When Jesus said He would make us fishers of men He made (of course) the perfect illustration. Fishing for men, as well as fish takes patience. If you like to fish you'll love fishing for men! try it today.

They ended up talking me into the big tubes and sliding down the slide - I made sure noone was watching! It was a great time. So what does this mean? It means that we should try to spend LESS time with the business of this season and MORE time with the family. It WILL create a memory.

Draw yourself a tub full of warm water. Add a few bath oil beads, and Voila! You're ready to hop in and "soak it" in the bathtub. Ahh, how soothing and relaxing!

Yesterday Harmony turned 4 years old. As we were talking about birthday's I began to think of Dec. 25 Jesus' birthday. I realize that many people claim Jesus is NOT God, however consider this... Matt. 2:1-6 points out that HUNDREDS of years earlier it was told the EXACT town where Jesus, the Christ would be born. I know this, Harmony did not CHOSE where she was born, yet Jesus DID. Why? Could it be because He IS God?

I think I have pik eye. Both my eyes are red and while my eyes re not light sensetive, I can only look at the computer screen for a few seconds at a time. I began to think about "eye" protection. So many things in this world catch our eye. $, things, positions, people. Let the Bible be our "Eye " protection. When we begin to look & lust, turn away quickly. Pray for spiritual "pink eye". Look @ God NOT the world.

Here it is the last day of November! Tommorrow is December 1st. Around this time every year I become very nostalgic. I begin to think of the past year. What I have accomplished, what I wishI'd accomplish, and what I WANT to accomplish next year. I use this time of year to evaluate my life and the progress made. Take a moment and take spiritual inventory. How have you grown this year? What do you want to do better in?

False Confession Day

I bet you have been waiting for today, in eager anticipation. For some unknown, reason, the creator of this day, thought it would be fun to encourage false confessions.

a few do's and don't's: 1. Don't falsely confess to a crime. 2. Don't falsely report someone lost, killed or injured. 3. Do confess to kissing your dog on the lips.
As hard as it is to believe Thanksgiving is only 4 days away! Soon we will be sitting around the table with a feast set before us. Thursday one of the biggest concerns most will have is, "Should I start with the turkey, stuffing, or desert?" After we COMPLETELY stuff ourselves full we will sit & say one thing, maybe two, for which we are thankful. The challenge is to not stop being thankful after thanksgiving dinner.

God is good. When life is easy, God is good. When life is hard, God is good. When we are right with God, God is good. When we're in sin, God is good. God NEVER changes. He is ALWAYS good. What changes? US, sinful man. Life is hard not because of God but because of sin. You can't say God doesn't exist because of the evil in the world! You can however KNOW He exists because of the GOOD in the world. The mercy, the love. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!!!

Great American Smokeout Day

The goal of this special day is quite obvious: to get people to quit smoking, resulting in fewer health problems, and less cancer and emphysema deaths resulting from smoking and secondary smoke.
Faithful - is this a word that would describe us? Are we faithful to do what is right? Are we faithful to say what's right, think what's right? Are we faithful to tell others about Christ? To invite others to church? To read our devotions? Have our prayer time? I have come to learn that God blesses those who are faithful to Him. If you are seeking God's blessing, be faithful to Him. The blessings will come.

More about Veteran's Day - On November 11 at 11:11, 1921 the U.S. France and England each buried an unknown soldier in honor of those who died in World War I. This began the annual Armistice Day holiday. The time and day was picked because fighting ceased in WWI in 1918 on November 11 at 11:11. In keeping with this tradition, work stops on this day and time each year for a moment of silence.
Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day & was first celebrated in 1921. In 1954, President Eisenhower changed it to Veteran's Day in honor of those who served & died from all wars.

Veterans Day - honors all members of the Armed Forces who who served this country valiantly. They served and fought to protect us, to keep our country safe, & to preserve our way of life. Veterans gave their time, and risked their lives for you & me. In some cases, they made the ultimate sacrifice.
Rom. 13:7 "Render therefore to all their dues honour to whom honour." Today we give honor to whom honor is due; our beloved veterans. It is because of your sacrifice that we are able to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today. Thank you for your gift to us. The gift of freedom.

Daniel was about to be thrown into a lions den to be eaten for supper. This UNSAVED king said that Daniel's God - whom he served CONTINUALLY - would save! "I lack the fervency, vitality, life, in prayer which I long for. I know that many consider it fanaticism when they hear anything which does not conform to the conventional, sleep-inducing eulogies so often rising from Laodicean lips; but I know too that these same people can acquiescently tolerate sin in their lives and in the church without so much as tilting one hair of their eyebrows." - Jim Elliot

People try many things to find complete satisfaction. Some will search for riches, comfort, vacations, sports, games, family, work, etc. At the end EVERYONE comes to the same conclusion, none of this gives complete satisfaction. Complete satisfaction is found, not in GETTING, but GIVING. Give your heart, decisions, time, riches, family, work, sports, life to God. Only then will you find COMPLETE satisfaction.

All Souls Day

The holiday of All Soul's Day pays respect & remembers the souls of all friends & loved ones who have died & gone to heaven. All Souls Day was started in 998.
Often people will pray to their lost loved ones and even ask for special favors.
All Souls Day is sometimes called the "Day of the Dead". - This is a Catholic Holiday with which I strongly disagreee with... but there you have it.
Psalm 57:10 - "thy mercy is great unto the heavens" - If you find yourself in a tough situation, not knowing what to thank God for, look up into the heavens. God's mercy is as great as the sky/ heaven's. As long as you can see the sky whether cloudy, or sunny. You can thank God for His mercy. God's mercy withhold's God's righteous judgment. We do not get what we deserve because of God's mercy. Be thankful for that.

But, if moved the christian holidays to this time periods, the pagan holidays would slowly die

Halloween - I am not a fan of Halloween at all. It is a holiday straight from the pits of Hell, but it is what it is.
Eph. 5:11 - have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness" - I have not said much, about Halloween, however, tonight MANY children will dress up (with parents help) as demons, vampires, ghosts, etc. As a Christian I am to folllow Eph. 5:11. Halloween is a holiday straight from the pits of Hell. Read and find the truth about this WICKED "holiday". What does Christ have to do with the devil? NOTHING!!

A Quote to Contemplate -

"Walking humbly, you are more of a man than you were when you walked proudly."
Henry Ward Beecher
I don't deserve it, but it's mine. I didn't think I needed it, but without it hell was my destiny. I said I'd be ok, but I was dead without it. I tried my own way, but found myself in a deep pit that I couldn't get out. Then He came by. He gave me what I didn't deserve, what I desperately needed, & the only thing that would give life to my lifeless soul. "What is it?" Jesus gave me mercy & along with that, His grace.

Navy Day -

Many nations around the world celebrate their navies, with a special day dedicated to them. In the United States, Navy Day is commonly celebrated on October 27th. This date was selected as it was the birth date of President Theodore Roosevelt, an avid supporter of the U.S. Navy. In the 1970's, research determined that the birthday of the U.S. Continental Navy was October 13, 1775.
My Prayer - "Lord, I thank You for your mercy. I am NOT worthy, yet you took me just as I was. I didn't change ANYTHING. You changed me from the inside out. Today I ask You to continue to change me. I don't want to be the same person today that I was yesterday, nor do I want to be the same person tommorrow that I am today. I desire continued growth and true humility. I want to be just like You.In Jesus name Amen."

National Mincemeat Day -

Mincemeat dates back to medieval times. It was a way to preserve food. It was also a treat, mixed with sweet fruits. It remains a traditional pie at Thanksgiving for many families. So, just what is mincemeat? It is a mixture of minced (or chopped up) meats, suet, and fruits. The meat is usually beef, either ground up or sirloin. Fruits include raisins, apples pear, and others.
Ps. 86:13 - Left to myself to indulge my passions, to rush onward with my natural vehemence, & defy the Lord with recklessness of levity, what a candidate for the lowest abyss should I have made myself by this time. For me, there was but one alternative, great mercy, or the lowest hell. With my whole heart do I sing, "Great is thy mercy towards me, & thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell." - crosswalk.com

My brother (Gregg) was invited to Hindu temple the other week. He had been talking about Jesus to someone. He invited them to church and in turn he was invited to the temple. This Hindu showed Gregg a little image and said this is the god I pray to. When Gregg told me that I thought how glad I am that I do not hold my "god" but my God holds ME!!! HE is ALMIGHTY and needs no help. No need to carry Him, He's got me!

Is. 61:10 - "he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness," - I am not worthy of what God wants to give me yet God, in His great love bids me come. I come naked, full of shame, guilt, & scarred by sin. He bends and cleanses me. He places a clean white robe of righteousness on me. I am now worthy, not because of what I did but because God made me worthy. PTL!!

"I Gave My Life for Thee" - by Frances R. Havergal, 1836-1879

5. And I have brought to thee Down from My home above Salvation full and free, My pardon and My love. Great gifts I brought to thee; What hast thou brought to Me?

6. Oh, let thy life be given, Thy years for Me be spent, World's fetters all be riven, And joy with suffering blent! I gave Myself for thee: Give thou thyself to Me.

Well there you have it.

3. My Father's home of light, My rainbow-circled throne, I left for earthly night, For wanderings sad and lone. I left it all for thee; Hast thou left aught for Me?

4. I suffered much for thee, More than My tongue may tell, Of bitterest agony, To rescue thee from hell. I suffered much for thee; What canst thou bear for Me?

Evaluate Your Life Day

Today pause and reflect upon our life, where it's been, and where its going. C'mon, be honest with yourself. Are things going well? What is bothering you? What do you need, or want, to change?

With a self evaluation, you can then make big changes to improve the quality of your life, as necessary. Or, if things are going well, just tinker with small adjustments.

Lamentations 3: 23 - great is thy faithfulness. - Have you noticed God's great faithfulness in your life? How has God shown you His faithfulness? God is faithful to us though we run from Him, fall into sin, feel rejected by Him - He's there. He is faithful when our friends turn from us, our family forsakes us, foes oppose us. He is faithful when we are on the mountaintop, when we sink into the valley. He is faithful.

Lam. 3:22- his compassions fail not. - God is a just, Holy, Sinless God who cannot nor will He allow sin in His presence, yet He has unfailing compassion. We were His enemies and deserved His vengence, God, however gave - & still does - us compassion. PRASIE GOD!!

What? - Here is another question that every Christian should ask. "What am I doing in life that is making an eteral difference?", " What is getting in my way of spiritual growth?", "What philosophy am I adhering to, Christ's or the world's?", "What difference have I made in someone's life this week?" I encourage you today to take some quiet time today and ask "What?", then sit and listen as God speaks to your heart.

If you are battling bitterness ask God to help you forgive now & don't be walking wormwood.

Phil. 3:10 "That I may know him," - It baffles me when Christians skip church. Why do we only do what is "required"? We don't grasp the concept that ANYTHING we put above God IS SIN. Why do we NOT desire to spend time with the One who died for us? Instead we say "I don't feel like going tonight. God understand's." Yes, He understands you are IN SIN. Follow God, not because you MUST but because He's your BEST FRIEND.

Celebrate the bicentennial birthday of Bison-Ten-Yell, the imaginary creator of a series of ten battle yells. His system was later adopted by football players and is still used today.
In 2 Kings 18:6 we are told this of King Hezekiah. "For he clave to the LORD" Hezekiah did not trust God when it was convenient no, he trusted God all the time in everything. He did so in a way that it said he "clave" to God. Not just hold on to God, but clave, as if God was his lifeline. We cleave to those things, people, places that are most important to us. It's time to let go of the world & CLEAVE to God.

What two words do you want to hear God say to you at judgement? We all want to hear Him say "Well Done". One way we will bhear that is by following the example of king Hezekiah, who trusted the LORD and because of that 2 Kings 18:5 tells us what God thought of Him. "so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him." So, do you want to hear "Well Done"? Then... trust God.

Lethal A. Ellis, 1929
Scripture: Galatians 6:7

3. Yes, He knows yours secrets, everything you do,
He knows that your life is untrue;
You can ne’er deceive Him, there’s no use to try,
You can’t do wrong and get by.
Refrain:
You can’t do wrong and get by,
No matter how much you may try;
Nothing hidden can be, everything He doth see,
You can’t do wrong and get by.

Scripture: Galatians 6:7

2. Out into the darkness you alone may go,
And seeds for the wicked one sow;
There’s an eye that’s watching from the throne on high,
You can’t do wrong and get by.
Refrain:
You can’t do wrong and get by,
No matter how much you may try;
Nothing hidden can be, everything He doth see,
You can’t do wrong and get by.

There’s a God who’s standing at heaven’s door,
He’s looking this universe o’er;
And He sees each mortal with a searching eye,

King Hezekiah did not stop with simply destroying false gods. 2 Kings 18:5 tells us that he trusted in the LORD. It is important that we not only rip out the false gods of our lives, but that we replace the with God Almighty. We must learn to trust God. Especially when Satan tempts us to do wrong, go back to the sin you have placed under the blood of Jesus. We must learn to lean on God & trust Himlike never before.

Holly's granddad passed away so we went to the funeral in Ar. While on the way back to TN our car broke down. Here is a great lesson. We all know life doesn't work out perfectly, yet it's always a shock when things go wrong. I had a great time with my kids as we walked the streets of the beautiful small town we were stranded in yesterday. We simply need to rely on God and not fret when everything comes unravelled.

So, what made Hezekiah such a great king? 1st off Hezekiah forsook the false gods of his father and turned to the 1 true God. 2 Kings 18:4 - He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made : for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan." We must do the same - destroy the false gods.

Wicked King Ahaz sacrificed & burnt incense in the high places, & on the hills - 2 Kings 16:4 He left God to worship other gods. We say "I have no gods in my house. No statues. I'm safe from doing such a thing." Yet we sacrifice family for work. We sacrifice church for "sleep". We sacrfice quite time with God because "we simply don't have time." Don't be fooled these are only a few examples of worshiping other gods.

Many Christians have said, "God can't really use me. Look at my past, you will see I've a rough life, & made some bad choices." Yet, I believe that God CAN use you even if you come from an ungodly background. The story of one of the BEST kings of Israel will encourage you. This king's dad "did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God," Yet God used Hezekiah powerfully. 2 Kings 18 God can use you too.

Esther 4:14 - "if thou holdest thy peace at this time, then shall deliverance arise to the Jews from another place;" - Don't be fooled, God does not NEED anyone. His DESIRE is to use you. Esther 4:14 - "who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" Esther was asked to go before the king & beg for the lives of Israel. This was dangerous & could mean death. As I was thinking about the verse that says God is the same yesterday, today, & forever. I got an excited feeling, then a cold chill. IT is true that God is always gracious, kind, etc., but He is STILL jealous, Judge, & Holy. "Hell is paved with good intentions."
Martin Luther
I came across a quote last week, the auther is unknown, but it says "If you don't want anyone to know, don't do it." so simple yet powerful. Christians have a tendancy to do things in secret and keep others from knowing about what we are doing. The only problem with that way of thinking is that whether we like it or not if we do something wrong it has been seen by God Almighty, the Judge. He even knows your thoughts.

Change occurs in the Christian's life when he meets with God. We have discussed devotions and prayer. There are other ways to meet with God as well, do know what they are? I will give you a couple more today. 3. Church - When I say church I mean Sunday morning, Sunday night & midweek as well. Why do I say that, beacuse we are told to in Heb. 10:25. 4. Quiet time - sit in a quiet place & just listen. Ps. 46:10.

"The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God."
C.S. Lewis
During VBS last week I was telling my boys that Christians experience change (2 Cor. 5:17). We experience change when we meet with God. How do we meet with God? We meet with God in several ways. 1. Devotions - Are you FAITHFULLY, DAILY reading God's Word? 2. Prayer - Do you pray to God? I don't mean only for your food or when life is bad, I mean do you REALLY pray? (Discover other ways to meet with God Tommorrow)

God has a plan for every one of His children. If you are a Christian, God has something special for you. It is not our responsability to know ALL of God's will for our life, it is only our job to do what God has called us to do here...now. We have a choice, we can either follow God completely and experience an "Abundant Life" or we can fight God and experience, a life of regret. Follow God COMPLETELY, do it NOW.

Monday, August 1, 2011

Welcome to August!! I don't know about you, but it is HARD for me to believe we are already in August! I want to pose is this, Have you grown spiritually this past week? Are you DOING more for Christ at this point in the year than you were in January? Are you more faithful to God now then this time last year? How about your devotions, prayer time, etc.? We should be growing closer to God every day. Well...are you?

Friday, July 29, 2011

One thing I've learned over the years of ministry. When we serve God faithfully we will be tired, even exhausted, but He ALWAYS gives the strength needed. I have discovered this truth again this week as I have been teaching in VBS. I'm tired, yet God strengthens me to do what needs to be done. If you think you are too busy to serve God, let me challenge you to find a way to serve Him & let Him worry about the rest.

Psalm 37:40 "And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him." - This verse summarizes the rest of Ps. 37. We must only realize that God WILL deliver us from the wicked. We face hard times now, but keep your chin up, "Fret not" because the wicked will be utterly destroyed while the righteous will be delivered by God's power. TRUST HIM.

Psalm 37:. 39 "But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble." - While the end of the righteous is victory, it is not achieved on their own. It is achieved through Jesus Christ the LORD! We do not have to rely on our own wit, strength, or valor. Instead we can wholly rely on Christ's Wit, Strength, and Valor! The battle is not ours to fight, it is only ours to witness!

Ps. 37:38 "But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off." - Contrary to the upright, who's end is peace, the end of the transgressors & the wicked is destruction. You must choose, live upright & suffer persecution - temporarily, or follow the wicked & rule - temporarily. In the end the upright will be victorious while the wicked will be defeated. Your choice.

Psalm 37:37 "Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace." - Who do you have your eyes on? Do you have a good Christian person you look up to? I think it is important to have "spiritual heros" in our lives. No, we should not look at them as being perfect, but we should mark them and use them to inspire us to live as they do. Upright, for it is the upright person who has peace!
