A Promise to Ponder Volume 2, Issue 19

2 Corinthians 1:21 - Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

Anointed - 1) to anoint, enduing Christians with the gifts of the Holy Spirit

   Now here is a word that can cause some great discussion among believers. The “anointed” has been used by many people in many ways. One thing can be agreed on by all Christians and that is the fact that anointing only happens to those who are truly born again. Anointing has always been a sign of setting someone apart for a particular purpose, in the Old Testament prophets would anoint kings and in the New Testament according to this verse and also Revelation 1:6 He hath made us kings and priests. When a person becomes born again they become anointed by the Spirit of God to be a priest and a king! The question becomes what other types of anointing does God give us? Let’s take a quick look at some scriptures…

• Psalm 45:7& Hebrews 1:9 - …thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

• Isaiah 61:1- The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek;…(We are also commanded to do this in the gospels, Mark 16:15)

• 1 John 2:27 - 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (This is the anointing of wisdom, not of man, but if God.)

While there are others, for the sake of space I will simply whet your appetite.

   I simply want to encourage you that you have been anointed to do great things for God, after all you a king and priest. The question we should spend a minute thinking about is “Am I living a life that proclaims to others that I am anointed?” It is made clear that God is the one who anoints, Jesus made a way for us to be anointed by His death, burial and resurrection, and the Holy Spirit is the one in which we are anointed. We can do nothing to receive the anointing, it is all God and that’s good news because we know that God does ALL things well. So go forth oh anointed one and live a victorious, set apart, and anointed life because your anointing is not of this world by the flesh, but of the God of this universe, and your anointing CAN NOT be undone. Now that’s A Promise to Ponder!

Anointed

Psalm 45:7- 7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Hebrews 1:9 – 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Isaiah 61:1 - 1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted , to proclaim liberty to the captives , and the opening of the prison to them that are bound ;

Acts 10:38 - 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good , and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

1 John 2:27 - 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Revelation 3:18 - 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich ; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed , and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear ; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see .

Verses that have to do with Anointed however the English word is not found in these passages:

Isaiah 59:21 - 21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

John 3:34 - 34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

Romans 8:9 - 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Revelation 1:6 - 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

1 John 2:20 - 20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

A Promise to Ponder Volume 2 Issue 18

2 Corinthians 1:21 - Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

Stablisheth – 1) to make firm, establish, confirm, make sure

   My Strong and High Tower, Rock of Ages, Shield, Corner Stone, Strength, Buckler, Creator, and risen Savior with all power given to Him. This is a short list of things the Bible calls God. When God is pictured in the Bible He is NEVER weak, He is quite the opposite. If anyone is fit to stablish the Christian it is indeed the God of the universe. We were sinking in a miry pit. We had fallen into a hole in which we could not dig ourselves out. Simply put we were on “sinking sand” without hope. This is the true condition of the lost person, however God is waiting, longing, and anticipating the time when someone receives Him into their heart. The moment a soul turns to Him He reaches down and lifts that soul out of the yuck, mud, mire, and stench of sin and washes, cleanses, purifies, and stablisheth – make firm, establishes, confirms, and makes sure – that soul. What does He establish us in?

  • in the faith - Colossians 2:7
  • To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God - 1 Thessalonians 3:13
  • every good word and work - 2 Thessalonians 2:17
  • also see 2 Thessalonians 3:3, 1 Peter 5:10
Take that, maul that over in your mind for a while. Now that’s a Promise to Ponder. This is so rich I will have to save the other half of this promise for next time.

Stablisheth

Colossians 2:7 - Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught , abounding therein with thanksgiving.

1 Thessalonians 3:13 - To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

2 Thessalonians 2:17 - Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 - But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

1 Peter 5:10 - But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while , make you perfect, stablish , strengthen , settle you.
