Deuteronomy 6:2 - "That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God." - I have heard that the Fear of God is a "respect". Respect is a result of fear. Fear in this verse means "to revere", but it also means "to fear." Fear of God brings obedience to God, obedience to God brings reward, "that thy days may be prolonged." Our Fear of God does not cause us to run away, but toward God Almigty. Don't be afraid of God, Fear Him.
